#Community – Membership Matters

“It’s better to have a partner than go it alone. Share the work, share the wealth. And if one falls down, the other helps, But if there’s no one to help, tough! By yourself you’re unprotected. With a friend, you can face the worst. Can you round up a third? A three-stranded rope isn’t easily snapped.” Ecclesiastes 4:9,10,12 [MSG]

Learning to Connect the Dots

At some point in life, we reach a definitive conclusion about where we fit in society and how we want to interact. I’ve come to find that if you’re not intentional about the good, what’s bad will often steal the show. In this particular instance, I’ve come to discover many things can transpire along our personal journeys that as a result cause us to feel we don’t need people. That statement however simply isn’t true. #community and having a sense of belonging is the premise of this post.

#Sacrifice – one word, a big mouthful!

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” – Romans 12:1,2 [MSG]

Growing up is hard!

200-1Whichever way you want to slice this thing growing up isn’t easy!  Some of us experience a decent transition. For others, it’s a pretty rocky encounter complimentary of bumps and bruises. But we all experience it. Unless of course, you belong to a small percentage of individuals who claim ignorance as their bliss and have boycotted maturity. Sadly we can’t stay young forever like Peter Pan, and at some point, we must face those tests of growth. If we don’t, I’m convinced we’ll be stunted in our human development. Worse than that, we never become [Col 1:9,10]. Currently, I am being tested in the area of #sacrifice. If I’m honest it’s overwhelming. Why? Because I understand the risks for my destiny fading to just a dream from yesteryear if I don’t pass my tests. Continue reading

#Improvment – it’s personal

“Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.” – Phil 3:13,14 [MSG]

The Light Bulb Is Officially On!

Feet don’t move unless thoughts are 100 steps ahead. Literally! I am convinced that if I don’t venture ahead of myself into the future bold and unafraid, I will stay stuck in the present and it will soon become the past. I’ll be scared and shivering like a lost puppy. Why? Because the world can be intimidating, people can be mean, and life can throw you curve balls. After you share out loud that you’re interested in change, and then make steps toward it, you may discover a lot of things begin to set themselves against your attempts to #improve. Especially if your change is a game changer.

“You just have to decide that a better you is more vital, and being trapped in a cycle is too expensive.”

29 Years of Reflections . . . #Unique

Life Lessons on being #unique

“But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.”

1 Peter 2:9,10 [MSG]

pr248616-78-2681226-1200x675-b-p-ebc0d7I think throughout history we’ve confused being #unique with a lot of things and called it names that are not to be affiliated with the truest meaning of the word. In fact, society has perverted the purity of who a #unique person is and how they are identified (in my humble opinion).

We’re fooled into only embracing mass fads, trends, life styles, diets, images, careers and the like because one or two people with money and influence decided this or that is what everyone should agree to be important and worth taking notice. (Crazy what will cause a person to take a side). Like a domino effect as we pick up the world and put down what sets us apart, many with the greatest of gifts and abilities stifle what they can bring to humanity for the sake of not being ostracized, rejected or left out. 29 Years of Reflections . . . #Connections

Life Lessons On #Connections

“Become wise by walking with the wise; hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces.” Proverbs 13:20 [MSG]

Do you understand your company? Do you understand your place as a link? Are your goals and identity complimentary to those in your circle? How well is the blend of your chain from start to finish? Do you compliment & represent each other seamlessly?

The subject matter of #connections is so much deeper for me than just considering the outside party. After 29 years of family, friendships and all the other bond types that have come in between, I can’t reflect on connections without also considering myself. #connections for me are worth mentioning because it’s never just a one-sided story. If anybody intends to pass this class you MUST have a firm grip on roles and relationships. You have to know that being connected requires relationship; taking who you are and being willing to invest in others at different levels; according to the capacity you’re seeking to make them a part of your journey, and their need of you for theirs. It took me a minute to grasp this fact, along with other important nuggets on the subject matter. Continue reading

Life Lessons on #Career

“Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place.”

Proverbs 3:16 [MSG]

As a little girl, I always desired to lead. It’s like I just knew that I could and even believed that I deserved to. In fact, the first #career choice I blurted out when asked “what do you plan on being when you grow up?”, was a desire to go down in history as THE first female AND black president of these United States! Pretty impressive that an immigrant under age 10 had enough faith and guts to take the White House. Fast forward 10+ years and my journey to #career has taken more twists and turns, with highs and lows that would make a board game of Candy Land seem like cake!

29 Years of reflections . . . #people pleasing

“Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.” Matt 6:33 [MSG]

Life Lessons on #people pleasing

I have a MAJOR disclaimer to make before I start this particular blog post. Just because I’m offering tips on #people pleasing doesn’t mean I’ve mastered the subject matter altogether. I’m not licensed to coach anyone through life neither do I profess to be an expert. But you don’t need great expertise about everything in life just to tell others you discovered a way that is better. As a continuation of my #29YearsOfReflections (I recently celebrated a birthday – see my first post in this series on #perception to get caught up), this post serves as an area where I can be honest and share what I know on a life matter that I’m fairly well acquainted with. 29 Years of reflections . . . #Goals

“It aches for the coming – it can hardly wait! And it doesn’t lie. If it seems slow in coming wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time.” Habakkuk 2:3 [MSG]

Life Lessons on #Goals

Thinking about this subject matter brings mixed emotions for me. I’ve always been big about #goal making. I’d buy the fancy journals, download the planner apps, even take the daring steps of being ‘honest’ with myself during self-evaluations (all the things I thought people are supposed to do when they make goals for themselves). By the time I was through I’d created a healthy to-do list and would feel ready to take on the world! However, that’s kind of where the train would stop and I’d get off the ride. . . “Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts”

Proverbs 4:23 [MSG]

Life Lessons on #perception

563856_10152342625255720_926057506_nI remember my childhood fairly well. . . .

Certain instances are more vivid than others, but overall I was slim as a twig and tall like a weed, great curiosity and a HUUUGE imagination of what life in my 20’s would be. No one could have ever told me then, that now with almost all 10 years of this decade behind me, being ‘grown’ is so much more than what’s superficial, commercial and/or marrying Will Smith’s identical twin. Unstuck! – Getting Past . Getting Over . Getting Through Personal Road Blocks

I can’t imagine how any person on the face of planet earth would readily volunteer to be sinking in quicksand. But how many out there know we are all susceptible to being at a place in life where suddenly and without warning, you find out you’ve fallen and just can’t get up! What few will share and most who’ve never journeyed here know, is that after the sting, when we’re finally ready to rise up from the ashes, THIS is where the fight often begins!
